19 Ott “Odyssey” by Hiroki Ito
Landscape photography has dominated the image feeds of all the world in the last 10 years since digital cameras became common and cheap for everybody. There is a kind of documentary which tries to achieve the same goal and to show beautiful, uncontaminated places, like it is looking for something unexpected, alien, inexplicably exotic, far and unbearably beautiful.
This short documentary by Hiroki Ito called Odyssey takes place in Hokkaido, a huge island in the north of Japan. The use of the drones shots resemble a sort of contemporary exploration, the ideal eye of a pioneer or of an explorer, the dream of those who, two hundred years ago, wanted to go into the wilderness, looking for the unexpected.
Exploring his region – this director was born in the northernmost city of Japan – through the use of his drone, the filmmaker extends himself over the landscape, trying to grasp its vastness, to dominate its immensity.
Filled with beautiful images and music, this clip contains some very beautiful and colorful landscapes that are like a trip on the other side of the world.
Good editing makes it a pleasure to watch. Sitting on the chair, we enjoy a slow flight into uncorrupted lands.
