“Fiction About Country C 关于中国的小说” by Xueqing Yin

Xueqing Yin directs an intimate and delicate documentary that begins with the portrait of his mother and comes to embrace a universal female consciousness. The power of this film undoubtedly lies in the stylistic and narrative simplicity, which make it a product with a “domestic”, nostalgic and perso  nal atmosphere. With a great act of artistic and human courage, the director takes us into an extremely personal dimension, well aware that only in this way she can arrive at a universal and sincere representation of certain feelings.

From a stylistic point of view, the camera softly “leans” on the story, without ever launching itself into indiscreet virtuosity. This film has the wonderful gift of expanding far beyond its own story and coming to embrace deep and simple meanings. Here the feminine touch is not a social imposition but the sublimation of a relationship between a daughter and a mother.
