An erotic fantasy can turn into a nightmare.
At the expense of the protagonist of “Cucked”, written and directed by Kendall Christianson, whom we see embarking on a sexual adventure that will be fun for only a short time, up to a disturbing and at the same time bitterly comic epilogue.
If an original idea, the ability to maintain a constant tension, and a truly scary ending are the bare minimum for good horror, the direction of this short film manages to do much more, using genre as a means to suggest something else. As noteworthy examples in recent modern horror (from It Follows to Titane) teach us. In this concentration of sex and terror, thanks to a few brushstrokes of brilliant dark humor, the author indicates with irony the closet inside which the skeleton of the mixture of anguish and desire is hidden.
“Cucked” plays with the monstrosity of every normal individual in search of his own fulfillment at the expense of the Other, as well as with the mirror in front of which the desired object-victim and the desiring-executioner are, interpreting the contemporary impelling theme of sexual desire and violence in a very personal way.
