07 Set «The Pantry» by Ervis Zika
Director Ervis Zika, an up-and-coming talent from Greece and currently based in Berlin, makes his debut with the impressive “The PAntry,” which successfully fits into the contemporary psychological and supernatural horror genre.
We follow Emily, a young woman whose cozy kitchen becomes the scene of unexplained and disturbing phenomena. The mundane action of preparing dinner is interrupted by mysterious noises from the pantry that portend a sinister presence. Emily, ignoring her instincts, becomes entangled in paranormal activity that takes her life at a dark turn.
Zika blurs the line between reality and nightmare. Viewers are drawn into the deepest corners of Emily’s apartment, where chilling events unfold. Ever-present voices, whispering disturbing secrets and dire warnings, lead Emily to the brink of madness and leave viewers with bated breath, doubting what is real and what is not.
After a creative career as a photographer culminating in such prestigious publications as Kathimerini, NDR and SWR.de, the film’s author proves his calling as a director with a captivating debut that works on atmospheres and the audience’s mental associations. Strong cinematography and the use of an enclosed set that serves as a backdrop for the gradual psychological destruction of a woman under the influence of supernatural events demonstrate Zika’s talent for disturbing without resorting to artifice.
“The Pantry” is not only a horror film, but also an intense study of human emotions that will touch a chord in lovers of the genre, but not only.
