03 Lug “A Renaissance” by Prach Rojanasinwilai and Noah Ottersen Parker
«Fair is foul and foul is fair» said the Poet. We can say that ambiguity is the real main character of this short film. The atmosphere of quiet happiness of a normal family is forever destroyed by the sudden death of one of the two sons. Three years have passed and the older brother is still in shock because of the loss of his little brother. With him he has also lost the relationship with his mother and wants to regain it up: but the price to pay is his own life. In this game of opposite characters, the identification with the dead brother is the path that the psyche of the protagonist travels to recompose the family peace.
The film is well directed. The choice of fixed shots on the protagonist’s face and the respective wide shots describe the young Patrick’s sense of loneliness with particular sensitivity. The work on cinematography is also well done, with excellent color choices and costumes. A special mention goes to the wise use of sound and soundtrack. Actors made a good performance, expecially Alice Renouf for the mother’s character.
