“C. P. CAVAFY | THE CITY (Wherever I Turn My Eyes To)” by Aristarchos Papadaniel and Panagiotis Kountouras

It is very rare to find new way of making hybrid films in today’s short film industry, but in this short by Aristarchos Papadaniel and Panagiotis Kountouras called “C. P. CAVAFY | THE CITY (Wherever I Turn My Eyes To)” we noticed a very interesting crossover between music video, art performance and short poetic short film that the director defined as “Audiovisual Epigram”. The result is a very original work framed by a cruel, dead nature, where the protagonist wanders singing its epigram to the dying land and fearsome sea in front of him.

Shot with a color palette that fortifies the existential questions of the protagonist, with a slow-paced, creative direction, it combines different techniques of shooting with 2D animation and abstract lighting. Experiments like this become a transmedial way of pondering about the audiovisual medium while still keeping the potential to make the spectator think about all the philosophical metaphors you can find into it.

The leading actor, who is also a co-director and singer in the piece, delivers a powerful musical performance that creates what could be defined as a new genre in short films.
