“Briar” by Brianna Woo

The director chooses the visionary tones of an apparently classic expressionist cinema, which is renewed however through the most contemporary pop influences to draw a new and original identity.

The ultra-aesthetic imposition that fills the eyes and frames of this film soon reveals itself to be a fundamental aspect of the storytelling. In “Briar”, what appears coincides with what is, in a desperate attempt to tear the veil of fiction and reach the depth of instincts, perhaps the same ones that the protagonist of this film tries to keep hidden. The elegance of the direction and the strength of the score bring the rhythm of the narration to paroxysmal tones, in which the protagonist, Pearls Daily, illuminates her space with grace and sensitivity.
